What to expect

Get in touch with nature with this day tour to Isla de La Plata “Silver Island”, part of Machalilla National Park, the country’s first protected area.

We will pick you up at Manta and take you through the “Spondylus Route” a scenic drive over the coast to Puerto Lopez. Once there, you will take a boat to the Island. From June to October, you will observe humpback whales, during their mating season. Once we get to the island, a birdwatching expert will guide you along the paths and will give you a detailed guide showing you all the species that live on the Island.

For closure, you will get some time to snorkel in the crystal clear water and discover the colorful marine life

Cancellation policy

  • If you cancel at least 7 calendar days in advance, there is no cancellation fee
  • If you cancel between 3 and 6 calendar days in advance, you will be charged a 50% cancellation fee
  • If you cancel within 2 calendar days in advance, you will be charged a 100% cancellation fee
  • For cruise ship travelers: If the ship doesn´t dock due to inclement weather conditions, political matters, or covid-19 related reasons, there is no cancellation fee

The itinerary

Across the waves

After the scenic drive from the town of Manta to Puerto Lopez, you will meet your local guide at the picturesque tourist dock. From here you will start your 50 minutes journey to the Island. From June to October you will spot humpback whales dancing and jumping like ballerinas across the ocean.

Time for hicking

As you edge closer to dock, it becomes profusely clear that is not going to be difficult spotting some birdlife. According to your possibilities, the local guide will inform you about the different paths that you could take.

A well deserved dip into the ocean

If you get a sunny day, at the end of the hike you will crave to dive into that crystal clear water. Therefore to finalize the tour, you’ll get some time for snorkeling and discover the richness of the wildlife below the surface.
