Holland America Line in Manta
Shore Excursions & Port Guide for Oosterdam, Zaandam & Volendam
Manta is a mid-size working port, not a purpose-built cruise terminal. Independent small-group tours leave directly from the terminal, move faster, and reach places large ship-organized buses do not go. Oosterdam and Zaandam both allow a full, generous day ashore; Volendam’s window is noticeably shorter, so tour choice matters more on that sailing. We schedule guides and vehicles around each ship’s specific timing — booking ahead matters on every one of these calls.
All-aboard is typically an hour before departure. On Oosterdam and Zaandam, count on roughly 07:30 to 18:00 ashore — enough for a rich half-day or a full-day tour. On Volendam, count on roughly 07:30 to 14:30 — a shorter window that fits a half-day or a tightly-paced full day, not long-distance trips. We tell you this plainly so nobody sells you an itinerary that runs against the clock.
Every itinerary is built backwards from your ship’s all-aboard time with a generous margin, and our guides track the clock all day. In over thirteen years operating in this port we have never had a guest miss a ship.

Which Holland America ships does this page cover?
Currently ms Oosterdam (Nov 25), ms Zaandam (Jan 10), and ms Volendam (Jan 11). We update this page as new Holland America calls are scheduled in Manta.
My ship has a shorter day than the others — what should I book?
On Volendam’s shorter window, a half-day tour is the safer choice. On Oosterdam and Zaandam’s longer days, a full-day tour fits comfortably.
Do I need cash in Manta?
Ecuador uses the US dollar. Small bills are useful for the market and artisan purchases.
What if my ship changes its schedule?
We monitor every call. If a departure moves earlier or later, we adjust your itinerary to match.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as possible, especially for Volendam’s shorter window, where tour options are more time-constrained.
Where do we meet our guide?
Right at the cruise terminal exit in Manta — look for the Narwell Tours sign. We track each ship’s arrival, so if your sailing docks early or late, we adjust and wait for you.
What is your cancellation policy?
Full refund if your ship’s call is cancelled or the port is closed for any reason. Full terms and conditions are available on our website.
Do you accommodate dietary restrictions or allergies?
Yes — let us know when you book. Lunch on full-day tours can be adjusted for vegetarian, gluten-free, or other common restrictions.
Zaandam and Volendam dock on back-to-back days — does that affect availability?
Tours and shared groups are booked per sailing, not shared across ships, so a Jan 10 booking does not reserve a spot for Jan 11 or vice versa. Book each date separately.
Can I book once I am already on board, or does it need to be in advance?
You can try booking once aboard, but spots fill from pre-booked guests first — especially on Oosterdam and Zaandam’s longer, more popular full-day windows. Booking before the cruise guarantees your place.
